The George III's 1780 Cooler is a piece of history that holds a unique charm but it's not modern or particularly functional. So how should I bring it to today's thermal and design standards?
Give it a modern look
What about a wrap around USA Flag in octagon fashion? Does anyone have any ideas?
Improve the insulation
Yeti has changed the game on cooler design and insulation yet there is something appealing about a metal liner! Galvanized steel seems to be the logical approach. What do you guys think? But then again, a backyard and indoor cooler doesn't need to be designed to keep ice for 7 days like an expedition cooler!
Make it Premium - Quality is everything to me
We live in a world of DIY and mass produced items. Computer assisted cutting and lasering has improved these mass produced items but FIT AND FINISH is where they all fall. I excel in fit and finish. All of you who have either purchased from me or received gifts of such examples of this.
Personalization
I am stepping up my game here. Get ready to see it showcased in this build!
Conclusion
Look at my upcoming posts as I dive into the above topics and settle on Melissa and Ben's design.
Mark,
Really loving the direction you're taking with this cooler build! The combination of history with modern design is a great approach. I think incorporating some of our families passions—EMS, scuba diving, and US Navy themes along with the American flag—would also be cool! The galvanized steel idea is solid too—would give it that rugged, premium feel. Excited to see where you take this and can’t wait to follow along with the design process!
Just a thought but you could always buy a piece of insulated sheet metal panel and just cut the angles for the octagon.
